Ingredients
- 1 egg yolk
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon instant espresso powder or coffee crystals
- 1 tablespoon light rum or milk
- 1/8 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/8 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 teaspoon sugar
- Orange peel curls (optional)
Instructions
- In a heavy saucepan, combine egg yolk, milk, 1 tablespoon sugar, and espresso powder. Cook over medium heat until the mixture coats a spoon.
- Remove from heat, cool quickly in an ice bath, then stir in rum (or milk) and vanilla.
- Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours.
- In a chilled mixing bowl, beat heavy cream and 1/2 teaspoon sugar until soft peaks form.
- Transfer chilled egg mixture to a punch bowl and fold in the whipped cream.
