Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups full-fat milk
- 1 large egg
- 1 1/2 tablespoons golden caster sugar
- 2 oz Bourbon, rum, or brandy
- 2 oz whipped cream (optional)
- Freshly grated nutmeg, to serve
Instructions
- Pour the milk into a non-stick saucepan and heat it until it's just below boiling point.
- In a large bowl, beat the eggs and sugar together until thoroughly combined.
- Pour half of the warm milk into the egg mixture and stir well, then return the entire mixture to the saucepan with the rest of the warm milk.
- Cook the mixture on low heat until it starts to thicken, ensuring it doesn't boil.
- Add the Bourbon, rum, or brandy and stir well.
- Pour the eggnog into heat-proof glasses and top with whipped cream, if desired.
- Grate plenty of fresh nutmeg over the top and serve immediately.
