Ingredients

  • 1/2 medium navel orange
  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 1/2 oz bourbon
  • 1/2 oz amontillado sherry
  • 1/2 oz ginger liqueur

Instructions

  1. Slice the orange in half horizontally.
  2. Cut a thin slice from each half and coat one side of each slice with the sugar.
  3. Heat a small, heavy skillet on high and sear the orange slices, sugar-side down, until lightly caramelized.
  4. Remove from the pan and let cool, browned side up.
  5. Juice the rest of the orange; you should have about 1/4 cup.
  6. Combine bourbon, sherry, ginger liqueur, and orange juice in a cocktail shaker with a few ice cubes.
  7. Stir briefly to chill.
  8. Strain over ice into a rocks glass.
  9. Place a caramelized orange slice, browned side up, directly in the glass, sitting on top of the rocks.
  10. Serve and enjoy!
