A boozy, aromatic twist on the classic old-fashioned, the Dublin Spice Twist is a blend of Teeling Small Batch Irish whiskey, homemade spice syrup, and a hint of dark chocolate, inspired by Dublin's distilling heritage.
Ingredients
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup demerara sugar (or Turbinado or light brown sugar)
- 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground cloves
- 1/4 tsp ground allspice
- 1 tsp grated dark chocolate (optional)
- Ice, preferably one large cube and small regular cubes
- 2 1/2 oz Teeling Small Batch Irish whiskey
- 1/2 oz spice syrup
- 2 dashes Angostura bitters
- 1 cinnamon stick, for garnish
Instructions
- To make the syrup, combine water, sugar, cinnamon, cloves, allspice, and chocolate (if using) in a small saucepan. Heat over medium heat, stirring to mix, and bring to a boil.
- Boil rapidly for 30 seconds, then remove from heat and let cool completely.
- Place the large ice cube in a rocks glass.
- In a mixing glass with ice cubes, add the whiskey, spice syrup, and bitters, stir briefly to combine.
- Strain the mixture into the rocks glass and garnish with a cinnamon stick.
